It’s that time of year again when we start to think about Christmas and what’s in store for our homes for the New Year. Future home trends will no doubt be affected by the current recession, which give us the opportunity to re-evaluate the way we live and consider the impact our choices have on the planet.

Check out La Luminata’s Home Trends for 2010…

Comfort - Our homes more than ever are where the heart is, staying in is the new going out! The home is our retreat from the current economic upheaval and multitude of stresses outside the door. 2010 will see the return of style with comfort, think English nostalgia, Chesterfield wingback chairs, cosy textiles, shag-pile carpets; all creating a serene and comforting living environment.

Green goes Luxe - With more and more consumers becoming eco-conscious, sustainable design needs to deliver excellent design. No longer is the time where sustainability is seen as an un-stylish alternative, ‘green’ goes ‘luxe’ for 2010. La Luminata loves SDH’s natural line of luxury linens that feel and look like silk.

All that Shimmers - A/W ’09 sees the emergence of sequin jackets and sparkly daywear within the fashion world. All that shimmers will be making its way into your home for the New Year in the form of embellished fabrics, sequin cushions and sumptuous soft furnishings. Accompany this shimmering trend with natural neutral colours to create a fabulously chic space.

Colour - Pantone Colour Institute revealed in March their colour palette forecasts for 2010, these predictions encompass the anticipated trendy paint colours for next year.  Among this year’s predictions for 2010 are earthy tones, lavender grays, mauves and willow-greens balanced by the warmth of cameo pinks, amber lights and pale golds. Exotic, rich and intense African inspired colours contrast with neutrals and accents. 2010 Colour trends are all about mixing rather than matching with unexpected colour combinations. This trend doesn’t have to mean redecorating; it can be embraced by updating home accessories such as cushions, bed linen or artwork.

Nature Inspired Designs - To compliment the predicted colour trends, nature becomes the inspiration for design. Think natural materials and themes such as flowers, butterflies, trees and birds. This trend is evident in the shift of wallpaper designs; out go glam in-your-face floral damasks and in its place are subtle, organic, nature inspired patterns. We love Graham and Brown’s Eco wallpaper collection inspired by nature.

The Live in Kitchen - As people are increasingly spending time at home entertaining and eating in, the kitchen more than ever is the heart of the home. Consumers now spend on average three to four hours in the kitchen every day. Kitchen design is being reinvented with seamless design details such as the emergence of camouflaged appliances, integrated storage and functional objects minimised, all creating an ambient family living space.

Personalise your Home - With more people choosing to stay in their homes rather than move, it’s time to create a home that truly fits YOUR style. Out go magnolia, beige and cream to please all and instead embrace what YOU love and will love for generations. It’s time to work with what you have and transform it with a few key investment statement pieces that you will adore forever!
