Updates: Daisy Green Has Made Me a Style Icon

October 22nd, 2010. No Comments

I am so unbelievably happy to have been selected as a Style Icon in Daisy Green's 'The You Issue' alongside some of my favourite Eco Fashion Hero's, Jo Wood, Orsolo de Castro, Lupe Castro and Summer Rayne Oakes.

It’s an easy option to be guided by rapidly changing catwalk trends to inspire our wardrobes, keep us feeling gorgeous and boost our self esteem.

But this can put us under a lot of pressure to frequently update our look with every single fashion served up to us whether it suits us or not. With renewed confidence and creativity, could we rely less on fast fashion – save money, reduce waste and celebrate our individuality by embracing our own unique style?

To help us find our own very personal fashion feet we asked the UK’s leading ethical style icons to tell us how they found their style. Read the Article Here.

Updates: La Luminata Teams Up With the Fashion Showcase Wales

October 14th, 2010. No Comments

La Luminata is proud to announce that it is teaming up with Kate Handley of the Fashion Showcase Wales to create a whole eco section of the Fashion Show on November 7th 2010.

Sponsored by L'Oreal and Orange 'Get Connected', the giant show boasts of over 400 staff including, hair stylists, make-up artists, models, dancers and technical crew. The show will be a visual delight for the eyes and a spectacular feast for the senses!

It's a lesser known fact that I (Rachel), grew up in Wales, so it's great to go back there from Brighton to Cardiff with my knowledge and experience of eco fashion, to dazzle the crowds of Cardiff with two stunning, hot eco labels.

We will be showcasing new collections from From Somewhere and Rowan Joy who both specialise in creating dazzling recycled eco clothing. Both labels have been hand-picked for their great ethics, desirable style and individual details. From Somewhere have just created a collection in collaboration with Tesco making eco-chic fashion that little bit more obtainable and affordable.

See you at the show!

Updates: Kolkata, the Boutique Fairtrade Store

September 29th, 2010. 1 Comment

I wanted to show you some work that I did earlier in the year for a wonderful Fair Trade Boutique Shop called Kolkata. Specialising in Fair Trade Women's fashion, gifts, trinkets and homeware. La Luminata designed the new-look brand and shop using the skills of Ryan Frank, William Jay and Tom Raffield's eco designs. To create a warm, tactile and rich feeling hub of Ethical luxury for it's customers.

The shop originally was lacking in space and had no changing room area for the customers. So we opened up the basement with a custom-built staircase and created a changing room area beneath the new staircase. The new basement are became the main Womenswear section, leaving the upstairs as a treasure trove for gifts, jewelry and showcasing some of the clothing.

A till area was designed in the style of a lecturn, which fitted neatly into the corner, creating maximum room in the shop for products and customers. Lampshades were designed specifically for the shop from eco materials and reclaimed furniture was customised to create a new display cabinet.

The concept was created by Rachel Holland for La Luminata, bringing together La Luminata's trusted suppliers and skilled crafters for a handmade aesthetic coupled with eco practicalities.
